Truth

This has been an interesting week. The main topic with my grandkids has been why it is important to tell the truth. We have been taught over the years that there are such things as a “white lie”. I am here to say that this is not the truth. Why do we have a generation that believes that it is common to not be so truthful? It is soooo easy to tell the truth but I think that perhaps we must define the word truth. Biblically speaking … Jesus is the way THE TRUTH and the life.
John 8:44 New Living Translation (NLT)
“For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
It is so clear to me that a lie is the opposite of the truth. I have a difficult time trying to understand why it is not so clear to this generation that we are in. To tell the truth is so easy because when there is a lie, most of the time there are several lies to cover up the first lie.
I came from a home of abuse but the one thing I did learn from my father was honesty. Truly this seems impossible considering the situation, but it is fact. My dad always said that he could not stand a ‘liar’. When a person gave their word it was their bond. It was as good as a notarized signature today. Can I say that I have never lied….no I would be a liar if I did say that, but I can say that I am not a liar by character. I strive to be truthful in all areas. I want this to be handed down to my grandchildren. I want my integrity to be renowned and obvious to all who remember me.
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life–your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life–and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
