Do things with all your might

I think sometimes that I am from a different mold than this generation.
. I work so hard it is difficult for me to slow down. My grandchildren think I am a perfectionist, but they don’t know what a perfectionist is. I simply want things to be done right. I guess partly because I was from a poor family who had to work hard for everything they had. We had a farm with pigs, hogs, cows…we planted peanuts and cotton…growing our own vegetables. My Mom canned and made her own jellies. Our candy consisted of syrup cooked on the stove until it got hardened to the point I could put it on a spoon and lick it. Then as I grew, my desire was to help, so I became a nurse to serve people who were hurting. My life has been spent on service to others. I regret nothing from my history because my work ethics developed and I appreciate the things that I learned. I am struggling now with the thoughts, how do I transfer these work ethics to a generation who believes that things should be given to them without their own efforts? The Scripture is very clear:
Ecclesiastes 9:10 “whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily! This is your last and only chance at it, for there’s neither work to do nor thoughts to think In the company of the dead, where you’re most certainly headed.”
Solomon was the wisest man on the earth and the wealthiest man and these were his words!
WOW! We must pay attention to those who have gone before us.
There is so much to do that every one is needed to help in doing it. In this great, busy world of life there is something for everyone to do. The command is, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” Think over these words for a moment. Does not your heart feel that they imply great earnestness in life? They mean a life of labor—a life of service. “Do with your might” implies putting your whole heart into your work. Do it in just such a manner as shows you expect to make a success of it.
There is something to do. There is much to do. There is too much to do for us to idle away one moment of time. A full and well-spent life is one which is spent in doing good out of pure love to God and man. When we shall have come down to the end of life’s journey, how sweet it will be to know that we have done all we could to help other pilgrims make their journey in safety! There is a reward for every generous act. Heaven is faithful and will repay. What we do here will find an eternity of reward. Let not, therefore, one day pass you by without your doing something purposely for God.
Pastor Diana did an awesome job last night at service. She reminded us that Heaven is real but also Hell is real. She reminded us that we needed to ‘get real’ with life. ‘Get real’ with our service to God. Our choices will define our eternity. When I am thinking about my daily walk and my daily service to God my eternity is on my mind. This is where the Scripture that Solomon spoke comes to mind, “Whatsoever thy hand find to do, do it with all thy might..” It is a heartfelt thing. We must serve because it comes from within and because it is the right thing to do. One of the young men asked, “How to we stay ‘saved’ or where we should be in a world that is always pulling us other ways?” The answer is very simple as it came from another brother,
Mark 12:30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Jesus responded in the next verse and said “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”
If we can abide by these 2 commandments then we will have no trouble serving one another. It is not always so easy but I have discovered over the years that most good and great things are not easily obtained. Yet, with patience they come and are well worth our wait.
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Let me be patient Lord and wait upon you. My life is in your hands. My journey is yours.
